[Past President - Murray Baber]
Hello from Takapuna North, I’m Murray Baber. I really appreciate your
time watching this short video and your opinion at the end is genuinely
valued.
The purpose is to quickly explain a large-scale fundraising idea that
offers an incredible prize and an easy source of income for your Rotary
club.
However, it requires a big undertaking of time & money so we first need
to know whether people like you will support it.
What we’re proposing is to run an international lottery for an amazing
‘money can’t buy’ travel experience. It will be a professional operation
endorsed by Rotary District and the New Zealand Government. Tickets
will be sold online and can be purchased by anyone, but each purchaser
must enter the Rotary club they want to support who in turn, will
receive 50% of the proceeds. Half of the proceeds will go to Rotary
Foundation and local charities, and half to the purchaser’s nominated
club – i.e. your club.
To tell you a little about the people behind the project is ex-naval
lieutenant and long-standing Rotarian, Tony Lewis.
[Ex-naval Admiral - Tony Lewis]
Q. Tony, what’s the background to this Takapuna North Rotary club?
A. Takapuna North Rotary club has been around for 35 years. They are
a think-big-do-big club with a successful history of large-scale projects.
The million dollar Yes Abilities Centre is an example of that.
Q. Tony, this is an ambitious project, do you think it will succeed?
A. Yes, this is an ambitious project, but I was in the Navy for nearly 40
years and I’ve seen what it takes to successfully achieve a mission. If
these guys say they are going to deliver a project, they’ll deliver it all
right.
[Murray Baber]
And so what’s going to be the prize in this mega-lottery? We will be
offering an experience of unique travel adventures for two people with
no expense spared. The itinerary will be so special, money couldn’t buy
it. This will be the most memorable travel adventure you’ve ever been
on.
We are proposing to have a professional concierge to coordinate every
detail before, during & after your trip. We’ll include international flights
and all your domestic transfers, plus accommodation in lodges,
beachfront homes, farmsteads and alpine retreats.
You'll have experiences like sailing in the Bay of Islands, gold-panning
in Queenstown and wine-tasting with the owners of private vineyards.
Adventures like sheep mustering on a working farm station and guided
fishing trips with a personal chef to prepare the catch. Plus indulgences
like private scenic flights over the Coromandel ranges and natural
geothermal spa sessions.
We are even working to include all your meals & wine throughout the
trip plus, hiring a videographer to record this once in a lifetime
experience for you.
Now you tell me – who wouldn’t want to have a crack at securing that
prize? Would you buy a ticket? Would you buy five? Would you sell ten
to friends?
And what if on top of that prize, you’re doing a good deed helping others
by buying a ticket in the first place!
[District Governor - Phil Ashton]
Q. Phil, from a District level who do you see as the benefactors of this
fundraiser?
A. As a Rotary District Governor I see a lot of local fundraising
initiatives, and while they’re all admirable, this one is exceptional.
Not only will many local children & charities benefit, but so will Rotary
Foundation and all their recipients around the world. Plus, there’s a
sizeable chunk of cash going back to the Rotary clubs who jump on the
wagon and sell tickets for distribution to their charities of choice.
It’s win:win for everyone who gets in on it. It really is the best inter‐club
fundraising initiative I’ve seen.
[Murray Baber]
And so in a nutshell that’s it. As you can see it’s a big undertaking. What
I would really, really appreciate now, is you taking 30 seconds to visit
this website and answer some quick
questions. Your opinion will influence the course of this project.
I’m Rotarian Murray Baber, and I thank you for this.
